Luella "Lu" Betty Randel at the age of 86, formerly of 407 Washington Ave., Oneida, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Oneida Healthcare Center. She was born in Oneida on Oct. 19, 1928, the daughter of Otto and Ruth White West. Luella was a lifelong resident of Oneida. She was first married to Wallace Mansir of Oneida and later married Jerome Randel in 1965.
Luella was last employed as a baker at Dan Dee Doughnuts in Oneida. She loved the New York Yankees and went to some games in New York City. She was also an avid NASCAR fan. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneida, the Moose Club, Owls Club and Elks Lodge of Oneida. She was a former Miss Oneida in 1947.
She is survived by three daughters, Karla (Thomas) Jenkins of Florida, Lou Ann (Robert) Thornton of Canastota and Tammy Zehr of Oneida; two sons, Robert Mansir and Jerome Mansir, both of Oneida; one brother, Otto West of Oneida; three sisters, Lillian Tessier of Canastota, Virginia Egelston of Alabama, Martha Warner of Verona; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Sally Rissman; one son, James Mansir, and sisters, Francis West and Ruth Mosher, who passed away one day prior to Luella.
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 7 p.m. from the Fiore Funeral Home, 303 Main St., Oneida, N.Y. with Thomas Jenkins officiating at the request of family members. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. prior to the funeral.
