The Armstrong Advertiser, August 16, 1951 -- Enderby Old Timer Mr. Bill Beadle Passes In 94th Year -- William "Bill" Beadle, a widely known familiar figure of the North Okanagan, died in Armstrong Hospital last Thursday morning, August 9. He had been ill only a few days. He was in his 94th year. He was born in Westport, Ontario, where he lived until he was 16, when he moved to Pennsylvania to live with an uncle. In early days of the oil business he worked with the late John D. Rockefeller buying and selling oil. They became good friends at that time. He started his trek westward with stops in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, finally arriving in B.C. where he remained ever since, except for time spent overseas. Bill Beadle arrived in B.C. in 1898, where he first went into the lumber business in the Kootenays. Since that time his name is legend throughout the interior. In 1916 he went overseas with Major Wilkinson in the Forestry Corps. On his way back he stopped off at his old home in Ontario to see his aged mother. While there he married Maud Sawdon, who came with him to B.C. to settle a homestead about two miles south-east of Enderby. Their home has been made there since that time. Funeral services were held in Enderby Saturday afternoon.
