William Eisner Obituary

Eisner, William G.

Mr. William George Eisner, age 91, of Manitowoc, departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus, on Friday, March 11, 2016 at North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center.

William was born June 20, 1924, in Manitowoc, son of Robert A. and Elsie Eisner. He attended Manitowoc schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942. As an adolescent, William was a Manitowoc marble champion and became a master kite maker and sold them to friends. He was an active Eagle Scout and summer counselor at Camp Sinawa. After high school he attended University of Wisconsin, Madison. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Corp in the 38th Bomber Squadron and did tours throughout the Pacific theater.

Upon his return, he married Alice Hardrath May 19, 1948. They were married 62 years and had three children. He was a home builder for several years with Eisner Construction Company until he became a real estate broker and auctioneer. He then became a sales representative for the Spindler Company until 1967, when he started his career with Modern Woodman of America as an insurance agent until his retirement.

William enjoyed a very active social life. He was a deacon at First Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Manitowoc County Expo, active in Manitowoc Elks Club #687, Wisconsin Maritime Museum, Pinecrest Historical Village and Rahr-West Museum.

His zest for life lead William to learn to tap dance and earn his pilot's license in his 70's. He enjoyed woodworking all his life and made numerous projects for his children and grandchildren, who fondly called him "Bapa". He can be remembered as the official greeter at the Capitol Civic Center proudly dressed in his tuxedo with a red carnation. One of the highlights of his life was to participate with fellow veterans on the "Old Glory Honor Flight". Bill looked forward to volunteering whether it was assisting voters on voting day or flipping burgers at River Walk. He loved being around people and talking to everyone. In his retirement years, he cherished his beautiful backyard, traveled whenever he could, golfed on the Elks league, loved fishing and cheering the Packers on with his wife.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Pam and (Barry) Blithe, Huntington Beach, CA; Lori (Bob) Popple, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: David (Betsy) Eisner, Mukwonago; five grandchildren: Derek Blithe, Allison (Jeremy) Gamble, Ryan Popple, Andrew Eisner and future WI Governor, Will Eisner; two sisters-in-law and one brother in-law: Joan (Don) Moder, Appleton; Dorothy Boriin, Grand Chute. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, one sister and brother-in-law: Elsie "Muddie" (Bernard) Novy; one brother and sister-in-law: Robert (Valeria) Eisner.

A celebration of William's life will be officiated by the Rev. Roald Harswick at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Knollwood Mausoleum with military honors accorded by Otto-Oas VFW Post #659 of Manitowoc.
