James A. Hannay was a life time resident of San Jose, CA. He was the last operator of the Hannay Nurseries which he managed for 35 years. The nursery propagated some of the first fruit trees planted in the first orchards of the Santa Clara county area.
Hannay and his sister, Mrs. Elgin Hannay Thompson of San Jose, took over the family-owned nurseries shortly after World War I ended. They were then located at 355 Willow St and are now at 784 South First Street.
Hannay retired about six years ago and made his home in Capitola.
Hannay is buried in the Family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery.
