Mary Anne McCarthy, Galesburg Chapel 82, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:04 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born December 21, 1932 in Hammond, Indiana to Thomas and Alice Tinberg Straus. She married Larry McCarthy April 29, 1967 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lynne Bruyn of Galesburg and Stephanie Line of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Erin (and Jeremie) Kilgore, Blair Bruyn and Cameron Line; and a great grandson, Elias Kilgore. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Straus.
Mary Anne graduated from Knoxville High School, Knoxville, Illinois in 1950. In 1953 she received her Registered Nurse degree from Galesburg Cottage Hospital Nursing School. She worked as an RN at Cottage Hospital for ten years and Dr. Sullivan’s office for 18 years. She assisted her husband in the operations of Mac’s Place, Galesburg. She retired in 1996. She was a member of First Christian Church in Galesburg where she served as a member of the diaconate. She was a member of The Galesburg Moose Auxiliary. She loved bingo and playing cards.
Funeral service will be 1:30PM Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the First Christian Church with Reverends Greg and MJ Fitch officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00PM to 7:00PM Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
