Roy Thomas Earl Abernathy, 85, of Inman went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. A native of Inman, S.C., Roy was the son of the late Marion and Molly Roddy Abernathy. He retired from Inman Mills after 47 years of service and was a member of Lake Bowen Baptist Church.
Roy was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors. When he wasn't on the lake, you could find him on his CB radio, at the flea markets, or watching wrestling.
Roy is survived by Shirley Kimbrell Abernathy, his loving wife of 60 years. He is also survived by his three children; Judy Hyder and her husband Tony, Linda Dove, and Keith Abernathy; and his nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all from Inman. He is also survived by one brother, Baylus Abernathy of Lyman and one sister, Corrine Cooley of Spartanburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by three brothers; Rob, Oscar, and Ervin Abernathy and one sister; Gladys Lanning.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Lake Bowen Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mark Williams, Rev. Tommy Turner, and Ben Abernathy. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Inman. The family is at the home and will receive friends Friday 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Lake Bowen Baptist Church.
