He was the husband of Rebecca (McDonald) Green (ca 1870-1944).
He was the father of Grace Ella (Green) McCarthy (1899-1977).
He was captain of the Schooner Yakima out of Gloucester. He and his crew were returning home from a fishing trip on Brown's Bank. That night a gale with hurricane force winds overtook the vessel. The Captain and his crew were on deck tending to the rigging as the vessel, no longer under sail, thrashed on the water. A large wave slammed into the vessel and Captain Green washed overboard. The crew lost sight of him and then spotted him clinging to wreckage many yards away. The crew attempted to reach him but the wind blew them further away. He clung to the wreckage for some time before slipping beneath the waves.
His name is on a plaque at the Gloucester Fisherman's Memorial.
