Dolores Garcia Y Aponte, also known as "Lola", was raised and died in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Her family was from somewhere in Spain, believed to be the Basque Region. After her first husband, Jacinto Cordero y Canales, died and she became a widow the local sugar plantation gave her the chance to work there (Salinas) as the railroad crossing guard for the sugar plant. She had two children with Jacinto. She later re-married Jose Lugo y Padilla and had one additional child.
