Mr. Charles Roberts was born at Fyre,Denmark on the 3rd day January 1848. In 1868 Mr. Roberts came to the United States locating first in the state of Wisconsin. For several years he traveled through the southern states finally settling in Daumburg, in 1873 and started in the mercantile business where he remained until 1882. (?)

On the 27th day of November, 1875 he was united in marriage with Elsie Peterson, and to this union were born eight children, four daughters and four sons, the first dying in infancy. The remaining children left to sorrow over the loss of a father are; Fanny McComber, Miss Hattie, and William and Walter of Gordon, Mrs. Ralph Culp of Alliance, Nebr., Mrs. Louise McCaugherty of New Castle, Wyo., and Otto of Martin So. Dakota.

In 1862 Mr. Roberts located in Brown County, where he resided for three years. Then he came to Cherry County in a covered wagon with an ox team, being one of the first settlers, and he and his family passed through the hardships of pioneer life. Here Mr. Roberts engaged in Farming and stock raising until 1912 when he moved into Gordon where he resided until his death.

Mr. Roberts was baptized into the Lutheran Church at an early age, and was confirmed at the age of 14. He departed this life after a lingering illness, at his home in Gordon on the 18th day of September, attaining the age of 79 years, 8 months and 15 days. Besides his wife and children he leaves eighteen grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors to sorrow over his demise.

The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church with Dr. C. L. Shelby in charge and interment was made in the Gordon cemetery.
