Musician. He was a guitarist best remembered for his top-selling international instrumental hit record "Apache" in 1961, reaching #2 on the American Billboard Hit Charts. He first started performing as the guitarist with jazzman Svend Asmussen's group "Swe-Danes" in the late 1940s. Influenced by American guitarist great Les Paul, he set up his own studio where he developed techniques of multi-tracking in the late 1950s. Under the name of "Jørgen Ingmann & His Guitar," he recorded his hit remake of "Apache" by the British group "The Shadows" in 1961. Into the 1960s, his collections of hit singles included "Anna," "Violetta," "Pepe," "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie," plus his versions of "Zorba the Greek," "Tequila," and many more. As a member of the duet "Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann," with Grethe as the singer and Jørgen playing the guitar, they placed first in the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest representing Denmark. In his later years, he stayed active in music until he died of natural causes at age 89.
