COLLINSVILLE, Va. — Robert Harold Acord, 87, of Collinsville, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was the loving husband of JoAnn Smithson Acord.

Harold was born in Glen Morrison, W.Va. on October 18, 1927, to the late Walter William Acord and the late Thelma Martha Acord.

He worked as a coal miner in West Virginia, and later joined the Army and proudly served during the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star. After he returned from the service, he was employed by Eastern Associated Coal Corporation until his retirement. Harold was a member of a Local Union #7604, District 29, as well as the United Mine Workers of America.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Acord and Roger Acord; and two infant children, Sharon Elaine Acord and William Alden Acord.

Harold leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife; three children, Randy Acord of King George, Va., Kevin Acord and his wife, Marvana of Glen Fork W.Va., and John Paul Acord and his wife, Robbin of Bassett, Va.; grandson, Joshua Acord of Lynchburg, Va.; two step-grandchildren, Bryan Anderson and Kristin Raye; two step-great-grandchildren, Randy Raye and Chad Raye; three siblings, Charles Acord and his wife, Gwen, Dale Acord and his wife, Mary, and Pat Lambert; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Harold was of the Baptist faith, having been saved and baptized many years ago. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved to read, particularly the Bible and Westerns. He loved and was loved by his family, and will be missed dearly by all.

In accordance with Harold's wishes, there will be no services. Instead, the family will hold a small private memorial.
