Ira Dale Acord, 82, of Glen Fork, went home to be with Our Lord and Savior on Friday, March 30, 2018, after succumbing to a long illness in his earthly home. He was a member of the Glen Fork Baptist Temple. Dale served in the Unites States Navy from 1953-1956 during the Korean War, serving on the USS Macon and USS Layte. He was a coal miner at Kopperston Mining for many years until becoming disabled.

Dale always loved car racing. In his youth, he participated in drag racing and won many trophies. He was a NASCAR fan, and always rooted for Dale Earnhardt. He was extremely knowledgeable about the mechanics of a car and was known to diagnose a car problem after a description from the owner, when other mechanics had tried and failed to repair it.

He was born September 24, 1935 in Glen Fork, WV, to the late Walter William Acord (1902-1975) and Thelma Adkins-Acord (1907-1991). He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert "Harold" Acord (1927-2015), Charlie Eugene Acord (1930-2016), David "Earl" Acord (1933-2013), and Roger Claude Acord (1941-2016).

He is survived by his sister, Mabel “Pat” Acord-Lambert (B. 1938); his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Alice Perdue-Acord (B. 1936) whom he married on October 11, 1955 in Glen Fork, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1955, Page 42, Application Date: October 8, 1955); four daughters, Kim Acord-Browning & husband Duane Browning of Lynco, Cathy Acord-Graham & husband Willie Gene Graham of MacArthur, Tammy Acord-Ashmore & husband Ronnie Ashmore of Bolt, and Lisa Acord & husband Dan Riffle of St. Albans; ten grandchildren: Jessica Goodson & husband Michael Goodson, Jason Browning, Jennifer Browning, Hailey Browning, Ashton Browning, Abby Browning, Joshua Graham, Cody Graham, Eddie Mullens, Tarrin Mullens; and four great-grandchildren: Lexie Chandler, Hayden Browning, Sarah Browning, and Derick Goodson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Evans-Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, 1081 Cook Parkway Oceana.
