Kornely, Frederick J. "Fritz"

Frederick J. "Fritz" Kornely, age 97, formerly of 3202 Mirro Drive, Manitowoc, moving four years ago to Fox Lake, WI, to live with his son, Lee and daughter-in-law Barbara, died on Friday morning, September 26, 2014 in Beaver Dam following a week-long illness.

Fritz was born on June 3, 1917 in Mishicot, WI, son of the late George C. And Mary E. (Koch) Kornely. His mother died while giving birth to Fritz's baby sister and his father died six months later, leaving four boys ages 11 to 2 years. After the death of his father, the boys were taken in by various relatives and friends. Two year old Frederick was raised by the Matthew and Clara Petri Family of Two Rivers, WI. Fritz attended St. Norbert High School in De Pere, WI. On June 27, 1939 he married Jean Boehm at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past June. They had a happy marriage, "remembering to laugh every day." In his youth, Fritz was a farm laborer, working for Harold Eis and for several farmers in the area. He told about delivering milk with horse and wagon for the Two Rivers Dairy and how the horse knew each stop, moving the wagon ahead on its own while he would run the milk bottles up to each house. Fritz purchased a farm on Mirro Drive in 1943 and operated it for many years. He worked for Kempen Cheese, Edy Paper Company, The Soo-Line Railroad and Manitowoc Engineering until his retirement in 1980. Fritz was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Manitowoc, WI. Fritz was an avid gardener, preserved what he grew, canned, and enjoyed sharing the food from his garden with anyone he met. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, playing cards, inventing (if he saw a need, he created a solution), helping with the horses on his son Bruce's farm and doing the barn chores. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles and always had a joke to tell.

Survivors include his wife: Jean Kornely, Fox Lake; three sons and three daughters-in-law: Bruce and Patricia Kornely, Francis Creek, WI, Lee and Barbara Kornely, Fox Lake, WI, Gregory and Susan Kornely, Marinette, WI; eight grandchildren: Annette (Brian) Hartman, Noblesville, IN, Sarah (Ken) Firari, Lowell, WI, Mark Kornely, Lake Geneva, WI, Todd (Samantha) Kornely, Little Torch Key, FL, Jonathan Kornely (Emily Rhoades), Colorado Springs, CO, Katharine (Yuriy) Roman Leshkov, Cambridge, MA, Margaret (James) Morrison, London, England, Rosalyn Kornely, San Antonio, TX; 15 great-grandchildren: Rachel, Alec and Ava Hartman, Noblesville, IN, Blaiz Firari, Lowell, WI, Connor Levander, Portage, WI, Andrew Kornely, Little Torch Key, FL, Maxsim, Dante, Apolo, Stella, Xander and Bruno Roman, Cambridge, MA, Hadley, Samantha and Penelope Morrison, London, England; two nephews: Ron (Joanne) Miller, De Pere, WI, Richard (Judy) Kornelly, Turner, ME; three nieces: Jacqueline (Bob) Stubbe, Manitowoc, WI, Joy Lynn (Joe) Rich, Maribel, WI, Janet Lensmeyer, Francis Creek, WI.
