While stationed in Boise, ID, he met and married Agnes Muriel Franklin. After the war, they returned to Carswell, WV, where they had five children, Dewey, Cherryl, Rickie, Reggie and Penny.
Dewey was a coal miner, and they lived in various small coal towns in West Virginia and Virginia. Two sons, Bryant Brett were born when they lived in St. Paul, Va, and a daughter, Debbie, was born in Hopewell, Va.
