George Edward Ware, 88, of Yorktown, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Waters of Yorktown following an extended illness.

George was born August 8, 1926 in Daleville, Indiana to the late Fred and Ruth Ware. He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1944. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during WWII.

George worked for Borg Warner for 45 years before his retirement in 1992. He also owned his own painting company for 40 years. After his retirement from Borg Warner he went on to work at Yorktown Community Schools in their maintenance department for another 15 years. He was also a 20 year veteran of the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a past member of the Eagles Lodge. George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and raising and training his Britney Spaniel hunting dogs.

George is survived by his four children, Darlene Miers (husband Dean) of Yorktown, Ed Ware (wife Debbie) of Muncie, Brett Ware of Yorktown, and Bart Ware (wife Erika) of Muncie; sister, Mary Frances Ferrell of Yorktown; six grandchildren, Lisa Vuurman (husband David) of Plainfield, Jeffrey Miers of Yorktown, Jennifer Cox (husband Tim) of Fortville, Holly Luzadder (husband Mark) of Yorktown, Parker Ware and Molly Ware both of Orlando, FL; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey, Macey and Brodey Cox, Nate and Cooper Luzadder, Tyler and Austin Vuurman, and Alex Miers; and several nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Annalou Ware; sister, Alberta Fulhart:; and special friend, Lorraine Buis.

A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Gant Funeral Home, 2215 S. Broadway St. Yorktown, IN. Burial will follow in Yorktown Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Veteran’s of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 and one hour prior to services form 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Gant Funeral Homes, Yorktown Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
