The Cato Citizen, 9 Sep 1926
LaVern Bourlier (should read Vern Bourlier), one of Sterling's best known residents, a close neighbor and friend of the McDonal family, left here the same day Wallie McDonal did, on a business trip, going to the home of relatives at Parish. He was taken seriously ill with infantile paralysis (polio) and despite the skill of six physicians, passed away Saturday. Many had not heard of his illness and the whole community was shocked at his sudden taking away. Private funeral services were held Monday and burial was at Pennelville. The floral tributes from friends testified to their love for the deceased. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, Mrs. Laura Fellers, a daughter, LaVern, his parents, a brother and many other relatives. Thus our friends and neighbors are passing from us and , surely, "in the midst of life we are death."
