GALLUP, N.M. — Funeral services for Leandro Jodie, 50, will be held today, April 16, at 2 p.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Leandro was born Oct. 4, 1964, in Grants, N.M., into the Tó'aheedliinii (Water Flow Together Clan), born for Ma'ii deeshgiizhinii (Coyote Pass Clan). His nali is Tábaahá (Water's Edge); chei is Kinyaa'áanii (Towering House). He died April 13, 2015, in Albuquerque.
Leandro attended Crownpoint Elementary School and graduated from Crownpoint High School in 1982. He attended Navajo Community College in Tsaile, Ariz., and TV-I in Albuquerque.
Leandro was employed as security with the Crownpoint Institute of Technology, bingo coordinator at Isleta, bingo/Herrera Coach, program director at KGAK radio station in Gallup, former vice president at Becenti Chapter, and rodeo announcer for IJRA, NNRCA, NMJBRA, various organizations, and Navajo Nation country bands.
Leandro was a fan/DJ for Stateline Band, Eastern Fair Board member, and sheepherder. He believed and practiced his cultural and traditional Navajo ways. He was always a friend to all and a role model to his many nieces, nephews, IJRA, and bull riding children.
Leandro is survived by his son, Wacey B. Jodie; daughters, Lisa M. Jodie and Summer L. Jodie; brothers, Hollis W. Jodie, Willie V. Jodie, Sheridan O. Jodie, and Quentin R. Jodie; sisters, Orlynda Jodie, Michaelyn Jodie, Quenteena Jodie, and Cindy L. Jodie; mother, Esther A. Jodie; and nephew, Burke L. Williams.
Leandro is preceded in death by his father, Willie Jodie Sr.; and nalis, Man and Woman.
