Additional information has come to the attention of the Murray Ledger & Times concerning the descendants of Revolutionary War veteran Andrew Meloan, whose grave in Murray City Cemetery was posthumously decorated with a gravestone by VFW Post 6291 on Memorial Day.

According to Frances Pennington of Houston, Texas, Meloan had lived in North Carolina, South Carolina and Mt. Sterling, Ky., after the war. He later moved to Murray where he died in 1834. Pennington said that it is assumed that his wife, Rachel Ozier Zillerfrow Meloan, is also buried in cemetery as well as Meloan's daughter, Permelia Meloan, and her husband, Robert Caldwell. Pennington said the cemetery is located on the site of the family's farm. Meloan's daughter, Rachel, married Harrison Peyton Utterback, founder of the First Christian Church in Murray in 1844.

Pennington said that Meloan is her fifth great-grandfather. Her daughter, Ann McKeel, lives in Murray as well as her son, Andrew McKeel, and his son, Eli McKeel; all direct descendants of Andrew Meloan. There are other Meloans buried in Murray City Cemetery as well, according to Pennington, and there could be other descendants still living in Murray-Calloway County bearing the family name.
