Roland J. McCarthy, 79, of 823 S. 18th Street, Manitowoc, died Saturday morning, February 17, 1990, at Mantiowoc Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mantiowoc. Presiding the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Eugene Brochtrup with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. McCarthy was born September 30, 1910, in Manitowoc, son of the late DeWitt and Mary Mohr McCarthy. He was a lifelong Manitowoc resident and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1929. Mr. McCarthy had been employed by Mirro Aluminum Company until his retirement in 1975. He married the former Bernice R. Handl on August 9, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Richard Nett of Kiel and Sarah and Roger Sleger of Meridian, Idaho; six grandchildren, Natalie, Stefanie and Valerie Nett of Kiel, Michael Sleger and Debbie (Sleger) Russell of Boise, Idaho and Sandy Sleger of Meridian, Idaho; two sisters, Sister Rose Gertrude McCarthy of Chicago, Illinois and Lorraine Knipp of Tucson, Arizona; cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Mark, Aloysius, Edward and William McCarthy and three sisters, Sylvia Gumz, Clara Edwards and Josephine Krantz.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. led by Rev. Eugene. Memorials would be appreciated to Holy Family Medical Center or St. Mary’s Church.
