John Scheurell Sr., 82, retired mason contractor died suddenly on Monday afternoon
at the home, 1115 Marshall street, after a heart attack. Mr. Scheurell had not been
seriously ill and was about the home as usual when he suffered the heart attack in
mid-afternoon yesterday.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 8:45 a.m. from the Pfeffer Funeral Home
and at 9 o'clock at St. Boniface Catholic church, the Rev. J. H. Schmitt officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. The Holy
Name and St. Boniface societies of St. Boniface parish will recite the rosary
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the bier.
Mr. Scheurell was born May 22, 1858, in Upper Silesia, Germany, and came to
America in 1882. He established his home in Manitowoc 46 years ago.
In 1887 he married Anna Baumeister at Hingham, Wis., and the couple lived in
Sheboygan and Chicago for three years before making their home here. The Scheurells
observed their 53rd wedding anniversary this month. Mr. Scheurell was engaged in
mason contracting until his retirement five years ago. He was a member of the
Bricklayers' Union, the Holy Name society and the St. Boniface society at the time
of his death.
Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Simono of Two Rivers and
Mrs. Dorothy Horstketter of this city; two sons, Francis and John Jr. of Manitowoc;
a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ervine Scheurell, widow of William A. Scheurell who died
several years ago; and 24 grandchildren.
