SWANNANOA - Claudia Marie “Deedee” Clubb Rice, 68, of Swannanoa, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

Born February 7, 1947 in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Morris (2004) and Minnie Blankenship (1985).

Mrs. Rice attended Blanton’s Business College from 1986 to 1988. She was a member of the Baptist faith. Deedee enjoyed watching NASCAR, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. She also had an extensive collection of elephant figurines that she took meticulous care and pride in.

Survivors include her life partner of 30 years, Jesse Gragg, known as “Papa” of the home; sons, Tommy Allyn Hart and Joseph LeRoy Hart both of Swannanoa; daughter, Teresa Annette Hart of Hendersonville; sister, Donna Chandler of Madison County; step-children, Sherry Allen and her husband, Dale, of Leicester, and Michael Gragg and his wife, Tui, of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous niece and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 27, 2015 at Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel in Swannanoa with Rev. James Lamb officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior. Committal service will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville.
