Age 56
Of Crystal, died suddenly but peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, two days after celebrating his 56th birthday. Raised in Hopkins (Hopkins High School class of 1968) and married to Linda Russel on Sept. 23, 1973 in New York,

Gary was a lifelong resident of the Twin Cities. He worked at Lights on Broadway, and was previously employed at Cargill Research Farm, Holiday and Powers department store. Gary made the most of our area, enjoying nothing more than a cruise on a lake or a big table full of family, friends, food and laughs at any local restaurant.

God filled Gary with a passionate personality and made him a great communicator and conversationalist. No one ever met Gary just for a moment; he wouldn't let you get away without at least a few good minutes. His love for animals was obvious in his care for his two dogs, and he never turned down a trip to Canterbury Park to pick his sure-bet horse.

His energy and spirit made him a popular youth sports coach in the Crystal area, and it seemed after 56 years everyone in town knew "Gar." But Gary always will be remembered most for bringing friends and family together the way we all wish we would do more often.

In his honor, pick up the phone, break bread, laugh louder, talk more and come together with those you love.
He will be missed.
