Ilion, Jan 22 - At the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Frank Sweet, 39 Catherine Street, Michael Carney died today.

Although Mr. Carney had been in failing health for the past year, his death was a shock to relatives and friends. He was born in Ireland, October 31, 1948. He came to Ilion about 60 years ago (1867) and since that time had resided here. He was employed by the Remington Arms Company for about 40 years.

On April 20, 1870, he was married to Bridget Crosby, who died June 3, 1925.* In 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Carney celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Carney was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and of the Holy Name Society of that church. During the time the church was being built, he worked on its construction.

He is survived by two sons, John F. Carney of Buffalo and George M. Carney of Ilion; Three daughters, Mrs. James W. Mahoney, Glendora, Cal., and Mrs. Bernard E. Tracy of Utica; and a brother Patrick of Schenectady, and a sister Mrs. Michael Meehan, Ilion, and four grandsons, George Sweet; John, William, and George Carney; two granddaughters, Irene Sweet of Ilion and Rosemary Tracy of Ilion.
