PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Former Pendleton resident Roy E. Burkholder Jr., 96, died April 25, 2015, at Harbour Terrace at South Port Square, Port Charlotte, Fla.

Roy was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Roy E. Sr. and Nellie Burkholder. He moved to Punta Gorda in 1990 from Muncie. He was retired as a maintenance electrician for Delco Remy Division of General Motors.

He coached baseball teams in the Pendleton Little League and as a member of American Legion Post 117, Pendleton, where he also coached baseball teams. He was a former member of the Pendleton Historical Society, member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survived by loving family, sons, Fred (Connie) Burkholder of Cypress, Calif., David (Carol) Burkholder of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Keith (Dawn) Burkholder of Coppell, Texas; two stepsons, Ken (Glenda) and Rex (Kim) Hiatt, all of Cape Coral, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zena Burkholder; daughter, Kathy Wilmoth; and a son, Daniel Burkholder.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.

Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Lahm Chapel.
