Sally was born on November 8, 1923 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Josephine (Zagrodnik) Bonk. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1941. On September 11, 1943 she married Stephan A. Check at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1990. Sally worked at Woolworth’s in the "Notion’s Department", and at Shady Lane Nursing Home in the Dietary Department. She completed the Dietary Supervisor course and was the PM Dietary Supervisor until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Rosary and Alter Society. Sally cherished time with her family. She lived for her children and grandchildren. She was known as the "traveling grandma", visiting her grandchildren in Arkansas, Dallas, Texas, Fox Valley, Madrid, Spain, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and Tennessee. After retirement, she spent many summers with her son in Arkansas. Sally enjoyed her weekly beauty shop visits to Kut n Kurl, rides in the country with friends, and visiting with neighbors. When family from out of town visited, they would always stop at "Aunt Sally’s" and were greeted by hello and "a ham in the oven". Sally loved baking and embroidering tablecloths for her children. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She warmed and comforted many hearts with her loving care.
She was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law: Deloris and Fred Wagner; and one daughter-in-law: Kathleen Weekes Check.
