A native of Buffalo, he attended Williamsville schools. He was employed for many years at Dresser Industries. After that company closed, he went to work for the state Department of Corrections at the Midstate Correctional Facility in Marcy until his recent retirement.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Lancaster and was a bowler and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, the former Sharon Gongwer of Alden, a daugher, Mary Browne of Depew; two sons, James of Lancaster and paul of Cheektowage; a brother, Robert of Town of Tonawanda; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Newfane.
