A Civil War veteran, he enlisted June 16, 1863, while a student of Pennsylvania (Gettysburg) College, and mustered into state service at Harrisburg June 20 as a private with Co. A, 26th Pennsylvania Militia. On July 3, 1863, he was promoted to corporal but also transferred to the U.S. Signal Corps, but discharge date as yet located. On August 30, 1871, he enlisted with the regular army at Washington DC and honorably discharged by special order July 1, 1874, at Washington with no reason given for the early discharge.
He remained in Washington after his discharge and worked in various capacities for the War Department for more than fifty years and was a member of Burnside Post No. 8, G.A.R. He married Elizabeth D. Sweeney and fathered David Percy (b. 03/07/74, d. 04/15/75), Mary Ellen, Frederick H., and Elizabeth (married William Hennig). Elizabeth died in 1885 and he married Catherine lnu.
