Manitowoc - Earl Joseph Alsteen, age 80, a Manitowoc resident, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Aurora Bay Care, Green Bay as a result of Lung Disease.

He was born on March 29, 1938, near Lena, WI, son of the late Edmund and Violet (Koutsky) Alsteen. Earl's first marriage was to Carol Morrell. He later married Leona (Lee) Hopkinson on March 6, 1995. They enjoyed traveling, line dancing, riding motorcycles and playing dominos with friends. He was also a beekeeper.

Earl graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1957. He served with the 208th Medical Attachments and 377th Ordnance in the U.S. Army Reserves; was employed by Frigo Cheese, Lena, WI; Evinrude, Milwaukee; and operated a screw machining at Eastman Mfg. (Parker Davis) for 42 years before retiring in 2000.

Earl was a member of the Brown County and Manitowoc County Beekeepers Association, and the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association. He volunteered as a driver for Peter's Pantry for 11 years and as a computer tutor at the Manitowoc Senior Center. Earl taught snowmobile safety classes for over 10 years and was a Boy Scout Cub Master. He previously was a member of the Manitowoc and Green Bay Harley Davidson Owners' Groups and the Lakeshore Snowmobile Club. Earl was also a member of First Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife: Lee Alsteen, Manitowoc; two sons: Gary Alsteen, Maribel, and Robert Alsteen; three step-children: Brian (Mary) Hopkinson, DePere, Ken (Jenny) Hopkinson, Burlington, Susan Hopkinson and Joe Almera, Hawaii; four step-grandchildren: Jaden, Elisa, Amber and Andre; one brother and sister-in-law: Richard (Barbara) Alsteen, Coleman; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Joyce Gilligan, Oshkosh, Sis (Leonard) Magee, Lena. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Earl was also preceded in death by and infant twin brother: Edward Alsteen; one brother: Tom Alsteen; one brother-in-law: Roger Gilligan.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Roald Harswick. Cremation will follow at the All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and Earl will be laid to rest at Knollwood Mausoleum, at a later date.
