Mrs. FLORENCE AUDOUN McCOMAS, wife of Dr. E.M. McComas, Washington, committed suicide by shooting herself through the heart. The tragedy occurred in her room on the third floor of her residence, 1406 L Street, NW, on Friday.

Mrs. McComas attempted suicide on Feb. 3 last by cutting her throat, and it was only due to prompt medical attention that her life was saved at that time. Early last winter she had an attack of typhold fever and this was followed by a nervous breakdown, which at times caused mental depression.

Dr. H.S. Dye, who has an office on the first floor of the McComas home and who attended her last February, heard the shot. He immediately went to the third floor and found Mrs. McComas stretched on the floor of her room beside a small tsble. The pistol was lying on this table. He examined the woman and found that the bullet had entered the heart and she was dead.

He immediately telephoned to Dr. McComas, who conducts a drug store at the corner of 12th and H Street. Dr. McComas came home at once, and on viewing his wife's body was overcome with emotion. Coroner Nevitt viewed the remains and issued a certificate of death by suicide.

Mrs. McComas before her marriage was Miss Florence Audoun, of Hagerstown, and her husband is also from here. Mrs. McComas was 45 years old.

The remains have been prepared for burial, and will be interred in Hagerstown.
