David Scarborough is the son of William and Sarah Scarborough. (He shouldn't be confused with his cousin, also a David Scarborough born in 1728, who also married a Sarah - Sarah Dunn.)

David's wife's last name is unknown, though her first name is Sarah. They had at least nine children: James, Tabitha, Samuel, Addison, Shadrack, Obediah, Sarah Sally, Joel, and Laben, as mentioned in David's will.

David Scarborough moved from Virginia to Edgecombe County (near Rocky Mount), North Carolina in 1758. He bought 150 acres on the south side of Beaver Dam Swamp on February 12, 1771.

On April 17, 1762, David Scarborough bought 100 acres on Town Creek in Edgecombe County from Robert Wright. This land was sold April 18, 1774. On February 12, 1771, bought 150 acres on the north side of Beaver Dam Swamp. David made his will November 20, 1773. It was probated July 1774 according to Williams and Griffin Wills, pp 292-293.

His burial site is unknown.
