rlene Houghton Hubbell, 83, died April 25, 2009 at The Village of Legacy Pointe. Funeral services will be 10am, Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Dr., Urbandale, Iowa. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Monday, April 27, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel.

Arlene was born in Gilmore City, Iowa and had lived many years in Des Moines. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church, Acanthus Order of the Eastern Star, PEO Chapter GX, Kiwanis, Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine, Quester's, was founder of the Iowa Quilting Guild, Past Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls of Iowa, and King's Daughters.

She will be missed by her children, Verne 'Rusty' Houghton, Jr. of West Des Moines, Deb Bentzinger and husband, Dana of Urbandale and John Houghton of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Cory Houghton, Chris Bentzinger, Eric Bentzinger, Katharine Houghton and Joshua Houghton; sisters, Velma Conlon of Ft. Dodge and Violet Reichardt of El Cajon, CA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Verne Houghton, Brigadier General Verris Hubbell; brother, Ivan Evans; daughter, Linda Houghton and granddaughter, Jessica Houghton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to her church.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Silvercrest at the Woodlands and Legacy Pointe for the loving care they provided for their mother.
