He was 83 years old, and was buried at his ranch on Cherry Creek, near Young, Az. He came to Arizona from Albany, Tex. with a large cattle expedition, settling with members of his historic Ellison family in the Pleasant Valley country in 1886. He assisted his bosom friend and fellow Texas traveler, Glenn Reynolds, build his pioneer home at the site of the Reynolds Ranger Station in the Sierra Ancha mountains. Later, Glenn became Gila County's famous sheriff who was slain by the Apache Kid and his outlaws. Pearl was steadfast in his belief that Glenn was killed by white men, not Apache criminals, because his friend was too clever to be subdued by the prisoners. He was a great square dancer; even up to the age of 75 he was considered the best in the country, and could go longer than most young folk. He was the brother of Duette Ellison Hunt, bride of Arizona's first state governor, George W.P. Hunt, who served seven terms.

He was survived by two sons, Glenn and Travis of Cherry Creek; a daughter, Mrs. Lena Fye of Cherry Creek; a sister, Mrs. Lena Ellison; and a brother, Jeff Ellison of Claypool.
