I am having trouble reconciling the information given from the Reynolds History as was presented to me by the Hogans. There is an 1860 census which would seem to support Robert Mills as her father. But upon further research the most glaring information comes from Caroline Barber's death announcement. Wyoming Democrat reports that when said Caroline died June 28, 1874, she was the widow of Robert Mills and daughter of Robert Reynolds. In the 1870 census she is named Barber and has Barber children. Shortly after Caroline died in 1874, her 5 month old Barber child died. There is absolutely no way Gorman could be the third husband of Caroline Reynolds. The only place in the timeline of Caroline Reynolds' life for Joseph Gorman is first. Ida had a younger sister, Elizabeth Mills, and Elizabeth always identified as Mills. The fact that the older sister identified as Gorman and the younger as Mills further places Gorman first in the timeline.

Looking at the 2 Reynolds genealogies available, neither has a death date for Caroline. I believe the research on Caroline was not complete and I have tried my best to piece the known information together. As the information presented does not mention Caroline's other children, or even her date of death, it would appear that they were want to just throw Joseph Gorman down as the third husband.

Given Ida's birth of 1852, the 1900 census record and burial records for Joseph Gorman, and not withstanding the absence of proof of marriage, I believe Joseph Gorman is Ida's father. One, her middle name, Josephine, appears to be a clue. Second a Joseph Gorman that married Julia Dixon in 1853 remained married until they died in 1904 and 1902, long after Caroline's death. Ida's death certificate says Gorman, her marriage announcement says Gorman, all articles in the paper say Gorman, her children believed it to be Gorman, the children's death certificates say Gorman, Elizabeth Day, believed it was Gorman, and her name is Gorman in the "Windham Township History."
I have tried to tie everyone together but have not linked to Joseph Gorman because I just can't be positive. I would hope that the Reynolds Family historian would take advantage of my research and update their information.

Update. Another day in the historical society and I found a name for a researcher on this subject. I was able to contact him and as it turns out he had made all the same conclusions that I had. Without prompting he mentioned the same Joseph A. Gorman, the same information that Mr. Gorman had to be in fact, the first husband of Caroline Rerynolds.
