WHALEY, EDITH M. (ABSTON) of Knoxville, passed away early Monday, October 10, 2011 at her home. She was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She is preceded in death by husband, Joseph F. Whaley; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Whaley Hill; parents, George and Myrtle Abston; sister, Ruby Burton; brothers, O.D. (Dudley), Ellis, Beecher, Robert, and Walter Abston. She is survived by her sons: Paul (Nancy), James (Kaye), Joe (Wilma), Kenneth and Phil Whaley; 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two great-great-great grandchildren, and two very special adopted grandchildren; caregivers, "Charlie and Wendy McGill. She is also survived by special nieces, Juanita, Carolyn, Margaret, and June; two very special nephews, Edward Abston and W.E. Butler. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services following in Stevens Chapel at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend John Jackson officiating. Family and friends will meet at Stevens Mortuary at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service and interment. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Doug, Robb, Leif, Brian, Eric, Ken and Josh Whaley and Justin and Jessee Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ed Wright, David Kearney, Tim Bowman, Brian Reed and Charlie McGill. Serving the family: Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at N. Broadway.
