LEETOWN, W.Va. - Winona Jones Owens, 76, of Leetown, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Shenandoah Health Village Center, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Jan. 15, 1926, in Summit Point, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alonza Dyer and Elizabeth N. Sowers Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. "Charlie" Owens Sr., in 1996.
She was a 1944 graduate of Charles Town High School.
She worked as a laboratory technician for 21 years at the National Fish Health Research Laboratory in Leetown.
She was a member of Leetown Baptist Church.
She was a member of Jefferson County Farm Bureau, a leader of 4-H in Jefferson County, W.Va., and a coach in the Potomac Little League.
She is survived by
two sons,
Charles G. Owens Jr. of Lexington, Ky., and
Alfred B. Owens of Leetown;
two sisters,
Alice J. Rissler of Charles Town, and
Juanita Allen of Rippon, W.Va.;
five grandchildren;
one stepgrandchild;
one great-grandchild; and
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
three sisters,
Hilda Heironymus,
Elizabeth Durham and
Dorothy V. Jones; and
three brothers,
Edward Jones,
Kenneth Jones and
Alfred Jones.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Dennis Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
