Mr. Pendleton was born June 24, 1926 in the small community of Joe Bailey, Lynn County, Texas. He grew up in Lynn County attending school at T Bar School and Tahoka High School. He served in the U. S. Army for three years, primarily stationed in Tokyo, Japan, until being honorably discharged in 1948. From January 1951 he helped build the first B-36 bombers until moving to Seattle to work on the first 707's flown. After moving to southern California, Mr. Pendleton worked on several of the first Apollo space shuttles and also worked on the Douglas DC-8 and DC-10. In 1966 he and his family returned to Fort Worth where, after 22 years, he ultimately retired from Bell Helicopter-Textron in June 1988. After retiring, Dee and his wife, Mary Evelyne traveled extensively with his brother and sister-in-law throughout the U. S. He enjoyed bowling with several leagues, winning many trophies, until his health started declining in 2001. Ill health did not prevent him from enjoying visiting casinos in Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico. Although he had endured C. O. P. D. for nine years, it was notuntil April 25th that rare aggressive malignant cancer cells were found in his lungs and bones. At the time of his checkup in November, there was no indication of cancer present. Mr. Pendleton was preceded in death by his parents, Sir Adrian Pendleton and Emma Janie Norwood Pendleton and brother, Walter Lee Pendleton.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Mary Evelyne Young Pendleton; daughter, Bobbye Lynn Shire and husband Gene; sons, Kenny Dee Pendleton and Darryl Adrian Pendleton; granddaughter, Claudia Pendleton Hill and husband David; grandsons, Kevin John, Brad Alan and Kurt Andrew Chalopiza; great-grand-son, Hayden Riley Hill; step-grandson, Daniel Thomas Shire, all of Fort Worth; sisters, Faydene Patterson of Brownwood, Roberta Daugherity of Bowie; brothers, Fred Pendleton and wife Ollie Lee of Seminole and Loyd Pendleton and wife Mary Lou of Tombstone, Ariz.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
