Gilbert attended Northeast High School. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944. Following the service, he met his wife, Winifred J. Pine and they were married on July 4, 1945.
Gilbert began his career with Goodyear in 1946. He was elected union president of URW Local 286. He served as URW international field rep. serving District #4. He retired in 1988 after 42 years.
Gilbert moved to Lemoyne after retirement in 1988. He married Helen B. Colson on December 14, 2007.
Survivors include: wife, Helen; children, Diana (Don) Bradley, Larry R. (Vickie) Laws, Gilbert (Theresa) Laws, Jr., Linda L. (Jack) Allsman, Ronald L. Laws; sisters, Joyce Johnson, Nadine Ladd, Jeannie Basket; brothers, Benjamin and Jack C. Laws; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Winnie; siblings, James, Hale, Beth and Maycel.
Funeral service Friday, June 5, 2015 at Roper and Sons Chapel. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.
