Georgia was the wife of Lt. Charles Gatewood. Lt Gatewood was instrumental in convincing Geronimo to surrender for the final time. When Georgia married Gatewood, she left all of the comforts in the east to be with her husband, who was serving in the Arizona Territory. She also endured the loss of a child and long days of waiting for her husband's return from patrols against the Apaches. Lt Gatewood, due to his unwillingness to play politics, never received the recognition (while he was alive) for his sacrifice and dedication to duty during the Apache Wars. Through it all Georgia stood by her husband, and supported him until his death at a fairly young age. She epitimized how many frontier army officers' wives perservered during the Indian Wars. She is buried next to her husband and son, Col Charles Gatewood.
