Mrs. Alice Costello
Mrs. Alice Costello died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Lacey, on the East Side, Thursday, August 26, of heart failure, aged 69 years. The funeral was held at the Catholic church Monday forenoon and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery.
The deceased was born April 15, 1840, in County Nexford, Ireland, and was the daughter of Thomas and Frances Rowe Colfor, natives of that country. She came to Canada in 1861 and to Illinois in 1865. She was first married to Dennis O'Neil in Ireland and later in 1873 to Richard Costello after the death of her first husband, at Winona, Ill. She came to Portland in 1880 and has lived there ever since. Her first visit to Hood River was a year ago last March when her only daughter was married to James Lacey, and has lived here and at Portland since that time. Her health failing of late, Mrs. Lacey spent some time with her mother in Portland and a couple of weeks ago brought her to Hood River where she could give her personal care. The deceased leaves besides her daughter, Mrs. acey, four brothers: Thos. Colfor, of St. Louis; John of Atchison, Kansas; Michael, of Hudson, Colo., and James, of Portland. The funeral was conducted by Father Johmann, assisted by Father Gillighen, of Portland, the latter an old friend of the deceased.
