From the 12/31/1895 Van Wert Bulletin: "Miss Tennie C. Allen died of typhoid fever, Sunday afternoon, at the home of her father, J.W. Allen, aged about 23 years. Miss Allen was a teacher in the Public Schools and was taken sick shortly after the beginning of school year in September. The schools have lost a competent teacher and the public an accomplished young lady. The funeral service will be held at the First M.E. church, Tuesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock."
