Benjamin Marlow Lasley of Lamard township, died Dec. 27th A.D. 1896. Deceased was born April 15th, 1819, in Gallia county, Ohio and was 77 years, 8 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. He was married in Ohio to Miss Lucinda Rotherford (Rutherford) May 2nd 1844. To them were born 7 children, six boys and 1 girl. One boy preceded him . . . . dying March 24th, 1895. He removed to Illinois soon after the war and purchased a home in Lamard township . . . death of is wife in 1881 . . . He was a member of the M.E. church . . the funeral was conducted at his residence Dec. 28th at 10 o'clock a.m. by Elder D. Logan . . . laid to rest in the Fairfield cemetery . . . ."

Note: In the 1870 census children were: Jonathan, 24; [John] Melvin, 25; Sarah, 17; Ansel, 15 and Junius, 12. In 1860 other children listed were: [William] Minter, 11; and David, 9. Daughter Sarah married John H. Redmond in Wayne County, Illinois in 1883. She appears in the 1920 census in Kansas City, Missouri. She died 2/23/1923 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.
Aged 77 years, 8 months, 12 days.
