Jonathan Lasley, son of Abraham and Hester (Craft) Lasley, was born on January 12, 1793, in Pennsylvania. He came with his family at the age of four to Gallia County, Ohio, and grew up in Addison, Ohio. On October 20, 1814, Jonathan married Mary Ann Hickle, born in Virginia on May 16, 1795. They were married in Gallia County by Gabriel McNeal. Records show that they were both residents of Gallia County at the time of their marriage. Jonathan and Mary Ann owned a farm in Rutland Township, Meigs County, Ohio. Here they reared their family of eleven children: Matthew, Calesta, Marlow, Elizabeth, Abraham, Jonathan, Esther, Sarah, William, David and Amanda. Jonathan died on November 19, 1839, in Rutland Township, at the age of forty-six. Mary Ann died on March 12, 1865.

The children of Jonathan and Mary Ann erected a large sphere topped tombstone to honor their parents. Following is the inscription from the stone:

In Heavens Eternal Sphere Shall Shine
A star of day
