On March 13, 1921, Helen Margaret came to bless the home of Jess and Vera Harper near Stockton. She was their first child. Two years later, her sister, Dean arrived, and they became the closest of sisters and continued so throughout life. Eight years later, they had their first brother, Robert J., known as J. R. Eleven years later their baby brother Bennie arrived.
Helen enjoyed life to its fullest. On July 8, 1938, she was married to Frank Gothard, whom we all knew as Fat Gothard. He became her closest companion. Wherever Fat went, Helen went. Whether working in the fields or just sitting in the pickup sewing while he worked.
In early married life, Helen and Fat lived with his elderly parents. Fat's parents loved Helen as their very own.
After 10 years of marriage their only child, Janice Kay, was born. Helen loved children dearly, and this special blessing brought untold joy and happiness to her life.
Kay was married to Wayne Lockhart in 1970, and they gave Helen three precious grandchildren, a great grandchildren and two more great grandchildren which have not yet arrived.
Helen was saved at an early age. She was a devoted Christian and a member of First Assembly of God in Bolivar. She loved church and was faithful to attend even when she wasn't able.
Helen always was kind and loving and so appreciated her friends and family. She made many quilts, selling some but giving many away. Her thoughts were always of others.
In later years Helen encountered many physical challenges. After a long struggle, she and Fat could no longer care for one another at hone so they made their new
residence at the Stockton Nursing Home.
Helen became very ill and was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, where she passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1995, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 8 days.
On Tuesday evening, Helen just went to sleep and went to be with Jesus. Just a few hours before her passing, Helen was instructing her family to be sure and go to church.
Helen always will be missed by her loved ones and many friends, but we know she's never suffer again. She's gone on to be with her mother and dad and all who have gone on before. And now she awaits her loved ones coming.
She leaves her husband, Frank, of the Stockton Nursing Home; her daughter Kay and Wayne Lockhart of Bolivar; three grandchildren, Alanda Stewart and husband Randy of Springfield, JoNeita Kerr and husband Chris and baby Bethaney of Dewey, Okla., and E. J. Lockhart and wife Stella of Bolivar; one sister, Dean Gothard and husband Ralph Gothard of Stockton; two brothers, Robert J. Harper and wife Nita of Huntsville, Ala., and Bennie Harper and wife Kay of El Dorado Springs. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Just beyond life's gateway is a garden bright and fair;
Where again we'll meet our loved ones and there'll be no parting there.
Pain and sorrow will be banished;
Gone all heartache and all fear.
Just beyond life's gateway, where they count not time by years.
Helen will be greatly missed by all.
