A native of Crespano, Treviso, Italy, Don Antonio Baruffa SDB., joined the Salesian Fathers in Bagnolo Piemonte, making his novitiate at Chieri Villa Moglia in 1957. Ordained priest on March 29, 1969 at the Basilica of Our Lady Help of Christians, Turin, three years later he was appointed tourist guide of the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus in Rome, starting would eventually become a lifelong attachment between him and the location, making Baruffa's name one of the most appreciated as a distinguished historian and writer of the subject, leaving various published titles. Obtaining a licentiate in Sacred Arts in 1970, he served briefly in Ivrea but was soon back at Saint Callixtus. Longtime lecturer of Roman History and Christian Archaeology at the Pontifical Salesian University, Baruffa passed suddenly away of a heart attack at the start of one of his daily tours of his beloved Catacombs of Saint Callixtus and in them was laid to rest following the celebration of a funeral mass at the Basilica of Saint Sebastian on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 15 hrs.
