Actress, Playwright, Screenwriter. A character performer, she played a wide range of parts on stage, in films and television. In 1920, she made her professional debut in the Broadway production "Mrs. Jimmie Thompson" and in 1934, she penned the play "By Your Leave." She co-wrote the screenplay for the Clark Gable and Joan Crawford picture "Love on the Run" (1936) and penned the play "Higher and Higher" (1940) which became a film adaptation in 1943 that starred Frank Sinatra. During the 1950s, she transitioned to films and debuted in the Gene Tierney picture "The Mating Season." This was followed with roles in "The Captive City" (1952), "Shadow in the Sky" (1952), "The President's Lady" (1953) and "A Man Called Peter" (1955). She will perhaps be best remembered for playing 'Mrs. Bolton' in the "I Love Lucy" based film "The Long, Long Trailer" (1953). Among her TV credits include "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "The Andy Griffith Show" and "The Donna Reed Show." She had a recurring role as 'Mrs. Gray' in "The Ann Sothern Show" (1960 to 1961), prior to retiring from the industry during the 1960s.
