Jay was an experienced bricklayer and stone mason, a trade he learned from his father. He also worked at the former Genessee Stamping in Owosso and was a tool and die maintenance man at Demmeer Corporation in Lansing, retiring in 1991.
A memorial service will be held art 11 a.m.Saturday, Nov. 24, at Mowen Funeral Home-William A. Scarlett Memorial Chapel. The Rev. David Woody, Redeemer Luthern Church, will officiate. A Gathering of family and friends will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home as well as prior to the service on Saturday.
Jay was born in Owosso, Nov. 20, 1926, the son of George Clifford and Alice (Kirby) Langtry. He attended Owosso Public Schools. Jay and Donna Lee Cowan were married on Oct. 20, 1951. at the Oakley Methodist Church.
Jay spent the winter months carving hand-made canes, making knives and "Tinkering" of all kinds. He played on the Redmond's softball team and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife Donna, of Owosso; daughter Denise Langtry of Owosso; son John C. and wife Becky Langtry, of Owosso; two grandsons, Cameron and Brody; Sister Fern Scarlett, of Owosso; brother-in-law, Junior and wife Shirley Cowan, of Chesaning; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Michigan Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
