Eleven-year-old Joanne Stillings, who shot herself last night in apparent despondency over her inability to form any friendships among schoolmates, died early today in Mercy Hospital. Dr. Garrett Boone, Butler County coroner, reported. Dr. Boone termed the death a suicide. The child’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stillings were away for the day, Dr. Boone said, and she had telephoned several schoolmates, inviting them to go to a movie. After making the last call, he said, she failed to place the receiver of the telephone back on the hook. An operator, who came on the line, heard a shot and groans. She notified police. Twenty notes were found in the girl’s room, indicating she contemplated suicide because of her inability to make any .friends, the coroner reported.
