MARTHA and her husband, JAMES BEARD, probably came over from England on the good ship, MARTIN. It is believed that James died during the passage over and was buried at sea. Widow Beard received extra land during the Milford division due to her "affliction". Her homelot was #54 and was located on Broad Street. Her daughter, SARAH BEARD, who married NICHOLAS CAMP, JR., was my ancestor.
Known children of James & Martha Beard:
Capt. John Beard, SARAH (BEARD) CAMP, Martha (Beard) Stream
Pictured to the right is the inscription on the Founders Bridge on the Wepawaug River running through Milford.
