He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until he joined the US Army in 1942. A decorated WWII veteran, George saw seventeen months active combat in North Africa and Italy with the 88th Infantry, and was twice awarded the Purple Heart. In 1947 he trained as a paratrooper at Fort Benning and served in the 82nd Airborne until his honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant.
George was predeceased by his wife Maria, and brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Effie Pappas.
He is survived by his son; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren, all of Dover.
