The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Stanley F. Cerbin, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Exermont, France, October 4 and 5, 1918. On October 4, Sergeant Cerbin led a small group through heavy fire and captured an enemy machine-gun nest with its crew of six men. The following day he again assisted in the capture of another machine-gun nest. Sergeant Cerbin later, after all officers had become casualties, took command of the company and led it forward to its objective.

Stanley Frank Cerbin and Rose Shafranske were married on June 29, 1921, at St. Helen's Church in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.
Together they had three sons, Philip, Harry, and Walter Cerbin.
Stanley's funeral Mass was at St. Viator Church, 10:00 A.M. on Febr. 14, 1977. The arrangements were by Theis Funeral Home. At the time of his death he was living at 4232 W. Wellington, Chicago, Ill. and his occupation was an electrical engineer.
